Hope you read the detailed article about skin types and oily skin in Part I. Now, let us continue with some tips and excellent home remedies for Dry Skin.
Ayurvedic Tips for Dry Skin
●Dry skin is due to Vata dosha primarily. It makes our hair thinner, drier; fingernails brittle. Cleansing & Moisturizing are essential to keep your skin healthy.
●Warm water dries out your skin. So, use cool water for wash. Do avoid long hot showers and shower less.
●Avoid soaps that wash out natural oils leaving your skin completely dry. Do not rub your body with a towel to dry yourself. Gently pat towel on your skin. Apply coconut oil immediately after a shower.
●Drink lots of warm water to keep yourself hydrated.
●Consume more vegetables and fresh fruits that have a lot of water content such as cucumbers, carrot, watermelon, radishes. Also, include milk, milk products, whole grains, nuts and carbohydrates in your diet. Examples of nuts are almonds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds.
●Avoid junk foods, eat a well- balanced diet and sip ginger-lemon tea to improve digestion.
●Exercise every day to increase metabolism and keep Vata accumulation away from your body.
●Sleep well, at least 7-8 hours a day.
●Reduce your stress; practice Yoga (Pranayam) or Meditation.
●One must completely avoid extreme weather conditions – neither too hot nor too cold, both are not suitable for dry skin.
