How to have a Healthy Liver?

Read time : min

Did you know that the liver is our largest internal organ? It’s true. It is about the size of a football and is located on the right side of the abdomen. The liver is an incredible organ and clears many toxins from the body, including all the medicines we take and alcohol. So, if you’re someone who pops a pill for that pesky headache, your liver is responsible for that medicine not being toxic.

Since the liver is so important, looking after liver health is obviously essential. The liver has incredible regenerative power and can generally tolerate a lot of damage. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t look after its well-being. The major issues that affect the liver are diseases like hepatitis, immunity problems, or genetic factors. Being overweight, drinking a lot of alcohol, and having diabetes can make things worse.

Liver disease does not always have symptoms. But some signs to look out for are: yellow skin, yellow eyes, abdominal pain, swelling in the legs, swollen ankles, itching, dark-colored urine, pale-colored stools, nausea, vomiting, tiredness and not having an appetite.

If you have any of these symptoms, contacting a doctor is important for diagnosing the condition. If you do have liver disease, it is important to know that it can be managed. Following a good lifestyle helps in treating liver conditions.

Let's have a look at a few things you can do for a healthy liver.

1. Maintaining a healthy weight –

Normal weight is when your Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 18.5-24.9 kg/m2. An easy way to calculate your BMI is to divide your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters.

BMI = Weight (kg)/Height (m)2

Try to lose weight by following a healthy diet and getting regular exercise if you are overweight.

Eating a diet rich in protein and increasing calorie intake can help in gaining weight if you are underweight.

2. Eating a good diet

Try to get all the important nutrients from your diet. Eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy. Avoid saturated fats. Try to get all the micro-nutrients, vitamins, and minerals from your diet. If you’re finding it difficult to get all your nutrition from food, you can consider adding a supplement to your diet.

Amrutam’s Keyliv Capsules – Herbal Care for Liver Health & Detox is a good addition to a healthy diet. They contain a mixture of Kal Megh, Bhringraj, and Dhania, which have anti-inflammatory properties that are helpful for your liver.

3. Exercising

Regular aerobic exercise, even something as simple as walking, can reduce the amount of fat in the liver and keep it healthy. Try to get into a habit of exercise.

4. Avoiding chemicals and toxins

Pesticides, insecticides, chemicals, and smoke, can all cause harm to the liver cells. Avoid contact with such chemicals. Avoid smoking. You can try the Jatamansi Churna – 100% Ayurvedic Detox, which helps in detoxification of the body.

5. Avoid alcohol

Alcohol is majorly responsible for liver damage. Drinking excessively can cause liver problems. Not only that, but alcohol can also cause many other health problems. Avoiding and limiting alcohol use is a healthy decision.

6. Practice safe sex

Hepatitis C in particular can spread through unprotected sexual contact. You can have it for many years without having any symptoms. You may have no idea that you have been infected. It is important to practice safe sex by making use of condoms and dental dams to prevent such infections.

7. Do not take any unregulated dangerous supplements

Many supplements have harmful chemicals that can harm your liver. Take trustworthy supplements, which are tested and natural, such as Amrutam’s immunity boosters and malts that are certified by the Ministry of Ayush, USFDA, and PETA.

If you are suffering from liver disease, maintaining a healthy weight, following a healthy diet, exercising, and avoiding alcohol and toxins are still recommended. This can reduce the severity of the disease.
