Triphala is a polyherbal Ayurvedic compound composed of three different herbs. In fact, it derives its name from the same. Triphala in Sanskrit translates to “three fruits” and refers to the three ingredients; Bibhitaki, Amalaki and Haritaki. This staple Ayurvedic formulation has been around since the conception of Ayurveda itself and is still widely used due to its potent healing properties and Rasayanic nature. The three components that makeup Triphala are efficient medicinal herbs on their own. The powdered pulp of Amla, Bibhitaki and Haritaki are mixed to form the classic rasayana.

There is a general agreement that most diseases arise due to problems in the gut. Ayurvedic texts have mentions of the same and suggest the use of various herbal formulations to cure gut disorders. Triphala ranks quite high as a potential cure to various gut-related issues like indigestion, constipation, alleviating gas, and improving digestive health. Additionally, the Ayurvedic formulation is also attributed to enhance overall oral health. The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal nature of Triphala works in conjunction with the various antioxidants present in the formulation to maintain your dental hygiene and health. Ayurvedic texts refer to Triphala as a Rasayana, which boosts strength and immunity.

Properties of the Herbal Formulation

Listed below are a few beneficial properties of Triphala:

  1. Enhance overall Digestive health. Several studies exist which identify Triphala’s ability to reduce stomach pains and ulcers, promote digestion, reduce hyperacidity and gas. The compound has also been shown to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria in the stomach while fostering the growth of beneficial bacteria.
  2. Acts as powerful stress alleviating tool. Studies have concluded that the polyherbal formulation works as an adaptogen and protects against induced stress in animals and humans.
  3. Helps in regulating diabetes in patients. Regular consumption of Triphala results in lower blood glucose and insulin quantities, keeping diabetes at controlled levels. Several studies have also observed that Triphala exhibits properties that closely mirror those of pharmaceutical drugs used in the treatment of diabetes.
  4. Triphala has potent anti-microbial activity. The Ayurvedic compound has a broad spectrum of anti-bacterial activity and effectively inhibits their growth.
  5. The Ayurvedic formulation also has considerable levels of antioxidants. These help to keep the skin young and wrinkle-free and have potential cataract-inhibiting properties.

From the above statements, it is quite clear that Triphala has very powerful and varied effects on our bodies. To make the most of these benefits, it is suggested that we all consume a specified amount of the formulation daily. One may consume a spoonful of the powder along with a glass of milk or warm water. However, if you want to mix things up, check out the rest of the article to find innovative ways to use Triphala!

Recipe 1: Triphala Jam

Spice things up with the sweet yet Ayurvedically balanced Triphala Jam. The recipe co-stars Honey and Ghee, which is a mouth-watering combination on its own. Although ancient Ayurvedic texts discourage the use of Honey and Ghee, together modern Ayurvedic views clarified the statement. Consuming Heated Honey and Ghee could be harmful and should be avoided. However, combining unheated honey and ghee has no harmful effects. Since the Triphala Jam does not require any ingredients to be heated, there should be no problems. To make the Jam, simply mix 1 tablespoon of Ghee, 1 tablespoon of Honey and 1 teaspoon of Triphala powder together. Ta-daaaa! Your Triphala Jam is ready. You could make the Jam in bulk or make it daily depending on your requirements.

(Psst! If you have a sweet tooth but feel compelled to stay healthy, you can try our Ayurvedic Gulkand! Not only does it taste amazing, it also has a wide range of beneficial properties!)

How to Use: Liberally apply Jam on bread and serve. We suggest using toasted bread and pairing the sandwiches with hot coffee for maximum delectability.

Purpose: The Triphala Jam is a creative way to consume your daily dose of the herbal powder. Additionally, the ghee and honey in the jam also express their benefits. Consuming the Jam daily in the mornings is a great way to start the day. The Triphala calms the mind and body, preparing you for the day ahead. On the other hand, the Ghee and Honey provide you with the sugars and fuel to work well!

Recipe 2: Herbal Tea

If you are not willing to consume sweet items, then try the Triphala Tea as an early morning drink. Herbal teas are much healthier alternatives to normal teas and provide us with a range of benefits. The tea is quite simple to make. All you need is the Triphala churna and a cup of hot water. Add half a teaspoon of the powder into the water and allow it to soak for about ten minutes. Drain the powder out and consume your hot Triphala Tea. If you find the Tea a little too bitter, you could sweeten it by adding some Honey!

How to Use: Consume a cup of the Tea either in the morning before starting your day or at night before going to sleep.

Purpose: The Triphala Tea is a great way to meet your daily Triphala dose. You could switch out your morning Coffee/Tea in favor of the much healthier Herbal Tea. Drinking it early in the day helps by soothing the nerves, boosts immunity, enhances metabolism and helps in weight reduction and nourishes the body. In addition to these effects, drinking the Tea before hitting the hay may actually improve your sleep cycle!

Recipe 3: Triphala Mouth Cleanser

Another creative way to incorporate Triphala into your life is by making a toothpaste-replacement using it. Due to the varied composition of the powder, it has potent anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties. This ensures that the Triphala Mouth Cleanser will help in keeping your mouth clean and germ-free. Making the paste is quite simple. Mix half a teaspoon of the powder with a little water to make the paste. Your toothpaste-alternative is ready to use! You could also make an herbal mouthwash using the same. Follow the previous recipe for the Triphala tea. Once the tea cools down a bit, use it to gargle and clean your mouth!

How to Use: Use it in the same way as one would use normal toothpaste!

Purpose: A lot of controversies exist around the use of toothpaste and its use. Certain components used in making your commercial toothpaste are thought to be dangerous to human health. Triphala can step in to fill this role either in the form of toothpaste or mouthwash. In addition to being free of any synthetic compounds, the Triphala in the paste or mouthwash has potent medicinal properties that enable it to keep our mouths clean and germ-free, eliminates foul odor and removing plaque.

Incorporating natural and herbal remedies into our life is the best way to find peace and inner happiness.

As Albert Einstein once said, “Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better”.

This really changed the game of how to maintain skin soft supple and glowing! I’m using it since few weeks and see hell lot of difference in the skin I had before and now. I don’t need any makeup or foundation to cover my skin imperfections since now they are slowly fading away after I started using this! I would say this product doesn’t need any kind of review because it’s above par than expected. It’s a blind buy honestly . I’m looking forward to buy more products and repeat this regularly henceforth.
