Got dry skin? Is your face looking dull? Skincare can seem like a big task but the secret to a bright complexion is in healthy habits. Using natural ingredients is both healthier and more sustainable way to never lose your glow. Here’s how you can use Ayurveda to boost your skin health.

Ayurvedic Skin Types

The first step in any Ayurvedic skincare routine is to identify your skin type: Vata, Pitta or Kapha. Vata skin is dry and sensitive, Pitta skin is prone to inflammation and breakouts, Kapha skin is oily and congested. Knowing your skin type will help you tailor your routine to your specific needs. You can determine your skin type by observing your skin or through a consultation with an Ayurvedic practitioner.

A Daily Practice

Consistency is the key to any healthy practice and the best way to establish consistency is through a daily practice. We’ve covered daily practices before but we’ve broken it down to the different practices for skincare and homemade scrubs. This routine is highly adaptable and can be adjusted to your needs. Consult an Ayurvedic practitioner if you’re not sure what’s best for you.

Morning

Cleansing

Start with a gentle cleanser for your skin type. For a natural cleanser, try Amrutam’s Face Clean-Up, which is suitable for all skin types and helps in deep cleansing and detoxifying the skin.

Toning

After cleansing tone your skin with a natural toner like rose water or aloe vera juice. For added benefits you can use Amrutam's Aloe Vera Gel as a toner which is soothing and hydrating.

Moisturising

Choose a moisturiser that suits your skin type. For dry Vata skin, almond oil is best. For normal to oily skin, coconut or jojoba oil works. Or  Amrutam Face Wash is a versatile option that hydrates and brightens the complexion.

Face Massage

Add a quick face massage to your morning routine to stimulate blood flow and boost your skin’s natural radiance. Use a few drops of Kumkumadi Oil which is known for its brightening and rejuvenating properties.

Midday Care

Hydration

Hydration is important throughout the day. Drink plenty of water and consider herbal teas like Tulsi or mint which have added health benefits.

Refreshing

To refresh your face carry a natural face mist. Neem Oil mixed with water can be a great midday skin refresher especially for acne prone skin.

Evening Routine

Cleansing

Remove makeup and impurities with an oil cleanse using jojoba or sesame oil. Or use a Herbal Ubtan  again for a deep cleanse.

Exfoliating

Exfoliate your skin gently to remove dead skin cells. Use oatmeal or rice flour for exfoliation.

Night-time Moisturising

For overnight nourishment, use heavier oils like argan or avocado oil. Or use Kumkumadi Oil again.

Stress Relief

Incorporate stress-relief practices like meditation or yoga into your daily routine. This benefits overall health and also skin health by reducing stress caused skin issues. Different yoga poses are for different doshas and it’s best to customise your practice with specific poses.

Weekly Practices

Face Steaming

Once a week, give your skin a herbal steam to open pores and deep cleanse. Add a few drops of essential oils like eucalyptus or lavender to your steam for extra benefits.

Face Masks and Scrubs

Homemade masks and scrubs are a must. Here are a few simple recipes:

  • Turmeric and Yoghurt Mask: Mix turmeric with yoghurt for a brightening and soothing mask.
  • Sandalwood and Rosewater Mask: Combine sandalwood powder with rosewater for cooling and hydrating effects.
  • Aloe Vera and Honey Mask: Blend aloe vera gel with honey for a moisturising and healing mask.

There are many options to choose from when it comes to natural ingredients and many of them are easily available too. Ayurvedic skincare is long lasting and benefits not only your skin but the environment too. Holistic care is often overlooked but it’s amazing to see what you can do with everyday ingredients. Try Ayurvedic skincare and love your body.
