I was diagnosed with PCOS in March of 2021 and I was scared.

Covid had hit the world and everything was shut down. Colleges, schools, offices and the whole world stopped. Everyone’s life came to a standstill. With staying at home and having a stagnant lifestyle my hormones went out of balance. I had a sudden flare up of acne on my face, my weight started rising and my periods stopped completely for 3 months. Irregular periods were the last straw in identifying that something was really wrong. I got my ultrasound done and cysts were found in my ovaries. My life turned upside down. I was so unaware of this problem and the misinformation around how it’s incurable got to me. The stress made everything worse. I started reading and researching and found out that there was something as PCOD too. I was confused. Which section did I fall into? What was happening inside my body? Which is more dangerous: PCOS or PCOD?

Firstly, Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is different from polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD). These are ovarian-related conditions. But, it's important to understand the distinctions in terms of symptoms, hazards, and treatments to tackle and control symptoms appropriately.

PCOS is less frequent than PCOD. According to research, the prevalence of PCOS in India varies from 3.7% to 22.5%, primarily affecting women who are fertile.

A further study on women of reproductive age in Southern India and Maharashtra revealed that around 9.13% had PCOS and 22.5% had PCOD. It is widespread not just in India but throughout the world. What exactly are PCOS and PCOD though?

PCOS, or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, is a hormonal disorder that affects women of reproductive age. It's characterised by an imbalance in reproductive hormones, particularly an excess of androgens (male hormones). This imbalance can lead to the formation of small cysts on the ovaries, irregular periods, and a host of other symptoms. PCOS is considered a syndrome because it involves a complex set of symptoms that can vary from person to person.

On the other hand, PCOD, or Polycystic Ovarian Disease, is a condition where the ovaries produce many immature or partially mature eggs, which eventually turn into cysts. While PCOD also involves hormonal imbalances, it's generally considered less severe than PCOS.

Symptoms to look out for:

The symptoms of PCOS can be more pronounced and wide-ranging.

They often include:

  • Irregular periods
  • Excessive hair growth (hirsutism)
  • Acne
  • Weight gain
  • Difficulty losing weight.

Women with PCOS may also experience mood swings, depression, and anxiety. Perhaps most devastating for many is the potential impact on fertility - PCOS is a leading cause of infertility in women.

PCOD, while still challenging, typically presents with milder symptoms. Women with PCOD may have irregular periods and some weight gain, but the hormonal imbalances are usually less severe. Fertility issues can still occur, but they're often more manageable than in PCOS.

The long-term health risks associated with PCOS are what make it particularly concerning. Women with PCOS have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and endometrial cancer. The constant hormonal fluctuations can take a toll on overall health and well-being.

What’s the Solution?

Living with either condition isn't easy. The physical symptoms are often accompanied by emotional distress. Many women report feeling less feminine, struggling with body image issues, and experiencing anxiety about their future fertility. The lack of awareness and understanding from others can make it an isolating experience.

But it's not all doom and gloom. While there's no cure for PCOS or PCOD, both conditions can be managed effectively with the right approach. Lifestyle changes play a crucial role - a balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management can make a world of difference.

My journey with PCOD has been a rollercoaster of emotions and physical challenges. But it's also been a journey of self-discovery and resilience. I've learned to listen to my body, to be patient with myself, and to advocate for my health.

While dealing with these symptoms can be challenging, many women are turning to holistic approaches to manage their condition. And so did I. One such solution gaining popularity is Amrutam Nari Sondarya Malt. I tried the malt for 3 months and for the first time ever my periods were regular. I feel more energetic, less anxious and my acne is almost gone.

Currently on my second bottle and happy with how this product has kept acne & breakouts in check. It doesn't leave the skin too dry and also doubles as a face mask.

Amrutam face clean up works great on any skin type, it has helped me keep my skin inflammation in check, helps with acne and clear the open pores. Continuous usage has helped lighten the pigmentation and scars as well. I have recommended the face clean up to many people and they have all loved it!!

This really changed the game of how to maintain skin soft supple and glowing! I’m using it since few weeks and see hell lot of difference in the skin I had before and now. I don’t need any makeup or foundation to cover my skin imperfections since now they are slowly fading away after I started using this! I would say this product doesn’t need any kind of review because it’s above par than expected. It’s a blind buy honestly . I’m looking forward to buy more products and repeat this regularly henceforth.
