Monsoon Rituals to Keep You Warm and Well

The rain has a way of finding you. No matter how much you cover up. With nonstop rains, even when you try your best, you still get wet. The umbrella flips. The wind sneaks in. Your feet splash through puddles you didn’t see. By the time you reach home, the chill has crept in too. And with this quiet dampness comes its friend. The ache in your back, the stiffness in your knees, the scratchy throat that turns into a week-long cold.

Monsoon does this every year. It brings us chai by the window and that smell of wet mitti, but it also brings dampness that settles quietly in the body. During Varsha Ritu (the rainy season), our digestion slows down, our joints need extra care, and our immunity has to work a little harder to keep us strong.

So if you’re tired of waking up with a stiff back or fighting another sneeze. Here’s how to make this monsoon easier on your body, the Ayurvedic way.

What to Do When You Get Wet in Rain

Getting caught in the rain happens to all of us - here’s what you should do right after:

  • Change immediately: Don’t stay in wet clothes, even for a few minutes. The dampness cools your body and weakens your immunity.

  • Take a warm shower: If possible, take a quick warm bath. It helps bring your body temperature back to normal and washes away dirt or germs.

  • Dry your hair and feet well: These are the first places the cold seeps in. Make sure they’re completely dry.

  • Sip something warm: A cup of warm water, tea, to keeps your belly fire steady. Include Amrutam's Flukey Malt in your routine to help build your immunity naturally.

Abhyanga for Rainy Days

When it rains have you noticed that your joints start aching? This could be because of the weather and the floor getting cold. This travels to your body, it feels stiff. Knees ache, back feels tight, skin goes dull. Ayurveda says: warm oil brings your body back to balance.

You don’t need a fancy spa. Warm some sesame oil or mustard oil. Or reach for Nari Sondarya Oil. A nourishing Ayurvedic blend that not only soothes stiffness but also keeps your skin soft and glowing through the damp days.Sit on an old towel. Rub the oil gently into your arms, shoulders, back, legs, feet. Go slow. Feel your skin drink it in. If you can, leave it for fifteen or twenty minutes, then take a warm bath.

You’ll feel your joints thank you, your skin glow, your mind calm down. If a full body massage feels too much, just oil your feet at night. It will help you sleep deeper too.

Move a Little, Breathe Deeply

When it rains for days, we tend to sit longer, work more, move less. Stiffness creeps in. So does gloom. Keep your body moving, but gently. Stretch your arms. Bend forward slowly. Rotate your neck and shoulders. Do a round or two of Surya Namaskar.

Sit still for a few minutes each day and just breathe. Close one nostril, breathe in and out through the other, then switch. This simple breathing keeps your mind calm, your chest clear.

If your nose feels blocked or heavy, this is where Nasya helps. It’s an old, trusted Ayurvedic practice. Put a few drops of medicated oil or plain warm sesame oil in your nostrils.

Warm a tiny bit of sesame oil or Anu Tailam (if you have it). Lie down, tilt your head back slightly, and gently put 2-3 drops in each nostril. Sniff gently so it goes deeper. This clears stuck mucus, protects your nasal passages from dryness, and keeps your sinuses healthy when the weather is damp.

In all this, don’t forget the most powerful ritual of all, deep rest. We often act like sleep is something to squeeze in when there’s time. But Ayurveda reminds us that immunity rebuilds itself when you sleep well.

Late nights, endless screens, cold feet, all make your body work twice as hard. So help it out. Rub warm oil on your feet. Keep them dry and warm. Pull your blanket tight. Let the rain drum outside while you drift into deep, healing sleep.

If you’d like an extra helping hand, you can add Amrutam’s Flukey Malt to your routine. A warm blend of Giloy, Tulsi, Amla and Pippali, trusted to help you adjust to changing weather and keep your immunity strong, season after season.

Now that you know how to keep your body warm and strong, don’t let the drizzle ruin your days. Let the rain tap on your windows while you stay snug inside, feet dry, back warm, a soft blanket nearby. Oil your tired legs, breathe deep, stretch out that stiffness. And when it all feels done, wrap your hands around a cup of hot chai or a bowl of warm soup.

The monsoon will come and go, but with these little rituals, your body will stay ready for whatever the clouds bring. Stay warm, stay well, and enjoy every drop, from the comfort of your own cozy corner.
