#REDISCOVERING AYURVEDA
Rediscovering Ayurveda is Amrutam's series of blogs which will include various men and women and their ideas about Ayurveda. Even though, India is the birthplace of Ayurveda, with passing time it has lost its original importance as a school of life amongst Indians and many a time have been limited to be referred as a school of medicine. Ayurveda is surely much more than that.
So, we at Amrutam decided to go out and find what Ayurveda means to people in the present day.
This is the fifth article in Amrutam's series of articles called Rediscovering Ayurveda, which aims to understand the idea or perception that modern-day men and women carry about Ayurveda.
REDISCOVERING AYURVEDA WITH NITIN GOYAL
Nitin is an Ayurveda and Yoga enthusiast from Gwalior. He has recently completed his teacher training course in Yoga from The Yoga Institute, Mumbai.
Lets read what Nitin has to say about his journey with Ayurveda.
WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF AYURVEDA?
Nitin belives that it is important to synchronize yourself with your natural body type to keep diseases away. He says
“My idea of Ayurveda is to live in a harmony with your natural body type. It's only when we do the opposite is when the imbalances set in, inviting disease.”
WHAT ARE YOUR TWO FAVORITE HEALTHY HABITS?
Cleansing is your body is an act of worshipping. We have often heard that line and Nitin firmly believes in practicing it.
He says
“My two favorite healthy habits are very simple. First is to wash my mouth clean with normal water after I put anything in my mouth no matter how small of a snack or how big of a meal. I wash my mouth plenty times a day because I believe many of the flu and diseases enter your body through your mouth and nose. Second is to wash my hands frequently. We are always touching stuff, phone, laptops and handshakes etc”
All the things that we make contact with daily are carrying diseases or infections, it is important that we practice proper hygiene and washing our hands frequently help to keep diseases away.
HOW DID YOUR JOURNEY WITH AYURVEDA BEGIN?
Nitin's journey with Ayurveda has recently begun. Let’s read about it in his words.
“My journey in Ayurveda began very recently once I began to inculcate Yoga as a way of life. I started growing more towards my roots and love taking interest in learning about the ancient science of Ayurveda and Yoga. And I realized they both go hand in hand. YOGA led me to Ayurveda.”
Yoga and Ayurveda are two approaches towards a common end, they compliment each other.

WHAT IS YOUR DAILY HEALTH ROUTINE?
Nitin follows an aggressively healthy routine to keep his mind-body-spirit fit. Here is how it goes..
“My daily health routine begins with some of the Shat Kriyas (Yoga Hygeine)/ Panchkarma in Ayurveda. After emptying my bowels I begin my day with Vaman Dhouti, Nauli, Jalneti, KapalBhati and then proceeding to Asana, Pranayama, relaxation and meditation. This sets the tone of the rest of my day. Apart from this if I find myself too much into my head or restless and physically tired I take a short Savasana/Relaxation break to rejuvenate my body without sleeping and feeling dull.
In between my daily activities.
I also try to eat things and do activities which balance my dominant Dosha and not aggravate it.”
HOW DO YOU THINK AWARENESS REGARDING AYURVEDA CAN BE INCREASED?
Nitin believes that Ayurveda being a wonderful way of living, it will self-prosper and reach the masses. Especially because of the problems we are facing in modern day, people are returning towards a healthier and more natural lifestyle, which constitutes an ayurvedic way of living.
“We are living in times where things are changing so fast and a lot of people are waking up to live a more natural and organic life. This also has raised the interest of many, especially in the west towards Ayurveda.”
WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE FOR ALL AYURVEDA, SPIRITUAL, YOGA AND HEALTHY LIVING ENTHUSIASTS?
Ayurveda is an experience and Nitin believes that you have to practice it to feel its magic. So start today, with simple healthy practices.
“From my little experience in Yoga and Ayurveda I have learnt that these are experiential sciences which work differently for every individual. What works for one may not be the right thing for you. So My message to all Ayurveda, Yoga, Spiritual and Healthy living enthusiasts is find the things that brings your life in a harmony. Do it day after day, knowing that you have done your natural duty of attending to your Body, which is your truest companion in life.
And you will see the magic unfold in all aspects of your life. Which will be long lasting.”
