In this week’s series of our Rediscovering Ayurveda article, we interviewed Dr. Nitika Kohli.
Raised with the values of discipline and service, Nitika started her journey as an Ayurvedic Researcher after graduating from Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College. In the initial phases, she worked in AIMIL’s Research and Development division. Her work involved actively participating in activities that could lead to the development of Ayurvedic formulations backed by research. In keeping with her role in the department, Nitika grew to have strong technical product knowledge that comes in handy to her when giving out consultations.
“It was my father Mr. K.K. Sharma (managing director of AIMIL Pharmaceutical) who inspired me to pursue Ayurveda. He started his journey long back and has worked relentlessly to provide superior quality Ayurvedic products. I wanted to follow the same path of helping people that led me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery. To enhance my learning, I also went on to complete my post-graduation in Dravya Guna from Uttaranchal Ayurvedic University, Dehradun.”
While Nitika was always familiar with the myriad changes that occurred as a result of following an Ayurvedic lifestyle, she was pleasantly surprised to experience those first-hand after she had learned the nitty-gritty of it. “I always believe that a disciplined life is the best life. It brings peace and joy to both your body and mind. I feel more energized and healthier with each passing day and that is what I want to pass on to my patients.”

More often than not, for every doctor and healer, their biggest motivation is being able to help other people in need. And Nitika is no different. She is acutely aware of her responsibility as a doctor and understands how people’s lives depend on her. “The profession I am in involves daily interaction with patients and those interactions happen on a very personal level,” she explains. So, when she hears people gaining confidence, healing from their specific ailment and living a healthy life, she feels extremely motivated to continue doing what she does.
There’s a famous quote that says, “Control your morning, control your life.” Nitika seems to really agree with it. When asked what a typical day in her life looks like, she responds by saying that each day is instilled with different sets of activities and emotions. But the one thing that remains a constant is the morning rituals.
“I start my day with Gandush (oil puling) followed by a good 20 minutes of meditation and yoga. Following which I rush to my clinic and see patients for consultations. I always make sure to spend time with my family and friends after long days at work.”
When asked what are the three favourite habits of her inspired by the philosophy of Ayurveda, Dr. Nitika suggests –
- Practicing yoga/ meditating
- Consuming lukewarm water throughout the day
- Regularly sleeping on time

With her strong command of the technicalities of Ayurvedic formulations and her education in Ayurvedic treatments, Nitika is certainly changing so many lives. “My biggest achievement is to consult over 1 lakh patients suffering from tough to treat diseases,” she tells us.
And what inspired her to keep going?
“My father is my biggest inspiration in my personal as well as professional life. He has always motivated me to be the best version of myself every day and taught me to remain disciplined and manage my time.”
We asked Nitika to share a few tips that will push you a step forward to achieving optimal health and she says –
- Your body always gives you signals. Never ignore them.
- Always be mindful, especially during seasonal changes.
- Exercise may look difficult to practice but is extremely important.
- Surround yourself with positive people. They make you feel more alive.
- And lastly, always eat food on time.
Nitika believes that awareness regarding Yoga and Ayurveda is being created, thanks to the power of social media. “You need to take care of your body that provides you so much. It is just like a give and take relationship,” she concludes.
As more and more people are coming to Ayurveda, we want to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Nitika Kohli for her sincere efforts in helping so many people lead healthier and longer lives. We are beyond grateful to have her as part of our #AmrutamFamily!
