Mid-January to Mid-March is considered as the Shishir Ritu. The air remains cold and windy during the Shishir Ritu. According to the Ayurvedic calendar, months of magh & phalgun incorporate the Shishir Ritu. This winter is associated with dryness and dehydration which leads to accumulation of Kapha & an aggravated Vata Dosha.

Due to cold winter winds, our skin feels more dried and dehydrated. Here are some of the Ayurvedic recipes you can try to keep your skin healthy during winters:

Abhyanga or self massage, is very helpful for the skin nourishment during winters. Use the Nari Sondarya Oil infused with Almonds & Olives or any of our new Body Massage Oils formulated with rich Ayurvedic Herbs and follow by bathing with water.

"Utsādana (उत्सादन) refers to “ointments” and “unguents” forming part of the cosmetics and personal decoration that was once commonly applied to one’s body in ancient Kashmir (Kaśmīra) as mentioned in the Nīlamatapurāṇa."

Utsādana help remove dead cells that accumulate on the skin because of dryness. Amrutam's freshly made Ubtan and rich Face Masks are extremely beneficial for exfoliation and unlike other exfoliators, do not strip your skin of its natural moisture.

Additionally, we also recommend the below simple tips to keep your body healthy during winters:

  • Avoid taking diets and drinks as are possessing pungent, bitter and astringent tastes which cause Vata imbalance
  • Avoid food that are light to digest
  • Foods having Amla (tarty) as the overwhelming taste is preffered.
  • Cereals and pulses, wheat/gram flour items, new rice, corn, and others, are recommended.
  • Foods having Katu (pungent), Tikta (bitter), Kashaya (astringent) dominating Rasa are to be stayed away from.
  • Soaking in sunlight is recommended
  • Eat two spoons of Chawanprash daily to build immunity
