Step 3: Prepare the Rajma

Heat oil or ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle. Add chopped green chilli, onion and sauté until softened.

Step 4: Add the Rajma

Add the cooked rajma along with a little cooking water. Mix well and simmer for 5–7 minutes until the flavours come together.

Step 5: Assemble the Bowl

Add warm rice to a bowl and top with the cooked rajma. Add fresh coriander and chopped onion.

Step 6: Finish with Lemon

Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the bowl just before serving.

Ayurvedic Benefits

According to Ayurveda, freshly prepared, warm meals with balanced ingredients can be a nourishing part of your daily routine. This bowl combines cooked legumes and grains with digestive spices, fresh herbs, and lemon for a wholesome and satisfying meal.

▪️ Provides Plant-Based Protein

Rajma is a good source of plant-based protein and fibre, making the bowl filling and nourishing.

▪️ Provides Sustained Energy

Brown or red rice provides carbohydrates that fuel the body, while its fibre content can contribute to a more satisfying meal.

▪️ Rich in Fibre

Rajma, whole-grain rice, onions, and vegetables contribute fibre to the meal, supporting a balanced diet.

▪️ Cumin for Digestive Comfort

Cumin is traditionally used in Indian and Ayurvedic cooking and adds warmth and flavour to the meal.

▪️ Fresh Lemon Finish

Lemon adds a bright, refreshing flavour and provides vitamin C. Pairing lemon with plant-based iron sources can also help improve the absorption of non-heme iron.
