Ugadi Pachadi Recipe and its Ayurvedic Benefits

Ugadi Pachadi is a traditional Ugadi (South Indian New Year) recipe rooted in Ayurveda, combining six tastes to support digestion, balance doshas, and prepare the body for seasonal change.

India celebrates the New Year in many different ways. Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, Vishu, Baisakhi… each with its own rituals, flavours, and meaning.


But today, we want to bring you a simple ritual. One that’s deeply rooted in Ayurveda, and something every home can truly benefit from trying.

A simple mix of six tastes, coming together in one bowl. 


Ayurvedically Benefits of Ugadi Pachadi 


In Ayurveda, these six tastes are not random. They work together to balance the body, support digestion, and prepare you for the seasonal shift ahead.


The six tastes, known as Shadrasa, are essential to keep the three doshas - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha in harmony.


▪️It stimulates digestion (Agni) 

▪️Prevents cravings and overeating

▪️Balances mood and emotions

▪️Nourishes all tissues (Dhatus)

▪️Prepares the body for seasonal transition (winter → summer)


Ugadi Pachadi Recipe

 

   

Ingredients

▪️2 tbsp jaggery 

▪️1 tbsp tamarind pulp 

▪️2 tbsp Chopped raw mango

▪️1 tsp neem flowers 

▪️1 small green chilli (finely chopped)

▪️A pinch of salt

▪️1/2 cup water (to adjust consistency)

Method

 

 

 

1. Soak the tamarind
Soak tamarind in hot water for at least 15-20 minutes.

 

 

2. Prepare the jaggery base
In a bowl, add grated jaggery with a little water and let it dissolve completely.


3. Extract the tamarind pulp
Mash the soaked tamarind well and extract the pulp. Add this to the jaggery mixture.



 

4. Add the remaining ingredients
Add neem flowers, chopped green chilli, chopped raw mango and salt.

 

5. Mix and serve
Mix everything well. Your Ugadi Pachadi is ready.
