▪️Rajas

Rajas represents movement, activity, and stimulation. In moderation, Rajas helps us stay motivated and productive. However, excessive Rajas can make the mind restless and overactive. You may notice racing thoughts, constant distractions, and difficulty staying present.


▪️Tamas

Tamas represents heaviness, inertia, and dullness. It is necessary for sleep and rest, but when it becomes excessive, it can create mental sluggishness, lack of motivation, and the feeling commonly described as brain fog.


 

When Overstimulation Turns Into Mental Exhaustion

 

One of Ayurveda's most interesting insights is that excessive stimulation can eventually lead to mental heaviness. Many people spend their days in a state of heightened activity. The mind is constantly jumping between tasks, notifications, conversations, and responsibilities.

 

This increases Rajas. At first, the result may be restlessness and difficulty focusing. But over time, the mind becomes exhausted.

 

What follows is often Tamas. The person who once felt overstimulated now feels mentally drained. Concentration becomes difficult. Memory feels weaker. Motivation declines.

 

This cycle of excessive Rajas followed by excessive Tamas closely resembles what many people today describe as brain fog.
