Let's read Soraya's thoughts about Ayurveda

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF AYURVEDA?

Soraya explains her idea of Ayurveda in a simple one-liner, highlighting all the qualities of Ayurveda as a discipline.

"Ayurveda is an ancient science of healing, a science of preservation of life, balance, longevity, and rejuvenation."

WHAT ARE YOUR TWO FAVORITE HEALTHY HABITS?

According to Ayurveda, drinking a lot of water can help in releasing Ama (Toxins) from our body. Soraya includes drinking water as one of her favorite healthy habits.

  1. To exercise daily
  2.  Drink lots of water

HOW DID YOUR JOURNEY WITH AYURVEDA BEGIN?

During her time in India, she stayed in the state of Kerala and started pursuing Ayurveda in her lifestyle

"I lived in Kerala for 4 years and started practising Ayurveda"

WHAT IS YOUR DAILY HEALTH ROUTINE?

Soraya recommends to
"sleep at least 6 to 7 hours a night,
wake up and meditate with sunrise 6 am,
drink water with a drop of lemon or Apple cider vinegar,
drink lukewarm water or green tea,
do your yoga and/or purification practices,
have breakfast according to your activities and your nature,
eat a good lunch with lots of veggies,
green salad and fibers,
try to have the six tastes in your food,
have a light and early dinner and meditate before sleep"

WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE FOR ALL AYURVEDA, SPIRITUAL, YOGA AND HEALTHY LIVING ENTHUSIASTS?

Soroya encourages to include these 5 lifestyle changes so that yo you are on the right path:
1. Do a daily routine of exercises.
2. Include any form of Yoga and contemplative practice in your life.
3. Drink lots of natural juices and water.
4. Do a pause for a daily relaxation practice.
5. Practice contentment, kindness and compassion with yourself and others.

Soraya tells us to avoid these 5 poisons of modern unhealthy diet habits:
1. Instead of white sugar use jaggery or honey.
2. Instead of white wheat flour use brown atta or use oat flour or any other cereal flour.
3. Replace oil and use only Ghee to cook.
4. Avoid daily use of dairy products except curd or yogurt and only have them in the morning or noon in the summer.
5. Use only brown rice for its high fiber content.

Soraya comes every year to teach and conduct retreats in India, and at this moment she is back to her home country.

As she tells us, she is opening an ASANARTE YOGA-DANCE, next month in the Dominican Republic, a beautiful island in the Caribbean.

REDISCOVERING AYURVEDA

Rediscovering Ayurveda is Amrutam’s series of blogs which includes various men and women and their ideas about Ayurveda. Even though, India is the birthplace of Ayurveda, with passing time it has lost its original importance as a school of life among Indians and many a time have been limited to be referred as a school of medicine. Ayurveda is surely much more than that.

So, we at Amrutam decided to go out and find what Ayurveda means to people in the present day.
This is the twelfth article in Amrutam’s series of articles called Rediscovering Ayurveda, which aims to understand the idea or perception that modern-day men and women carry about Ayurveda.
