In this week’s article of our Rediscovering Ayurveda series, we interviewed Dr. Deepa Godara.
Meet Dr. Deepa
A devout of medical sciences and ardent Ayurveda practitioner, Dr. Deepa comes from a strong background of following Ayurvedic rituals growing up. She is also an expert at Amrutam.Global, a platform for holistic living and often shares meaningful tips in achieving optimal health. We interviewed Dr. Deepa to learn more about her work, what brought her to Ayurveda and what keeps her going!
“I started my journey in 2011 when I got admission in Uttarakhand’s best Ayurvedic college,” say Deepa reminiscing her early days of being a student of Ayurveda. It was as if a whole new world had opened itself for her and she found herself being in awe of all that this 5000-year-old Indian science was capable of doing and giving. Later in 2018 when she began her master’s degree, she decided to do something purposeful about her Ayurvedic knowledge and education. She began sharing daily tips for healthy living and made a page on Instagram by the name @DrDee!
“Gradually, people began showing interest in what I was sharing and after receiving this positive response, I started a wellness centre in my city called Urja Ayurveda where my team and I treat patients with the help of Ayurvedic principles, the Yogic philosophy and naturopathy.”
A passion to heal
Needless to say, Dr. Deepa has done an incredible job in creating awareness about Ayurveda and the natural healing around her. She sincerely believes that in times where we are doing little physical movement, eating junk and processed foods, it becomes very important for us to adapt and make small changes. And what is better than Ayurveda for a unique and customized plan! Keeping this in mind, not only has Dr. Deepa herself become a keen practitioner of Ayurveda but also encourages her loved ones to incorporate Ayurveda in their lives.

When asked what keeps her motivated, she says, “It is my passion to treat people! Medical sciences have always been my interest. I love what I do and that’s what keeps me motivated.”
“A day in my life as an Ayurveda practitioner is full of adventure! It begins early in the morning followed by yoga classes that I take. As the day progresses, patients call in for their queries and consultations. Most of them are concerned about what they should eat for a particular condition they are suffering from. At the centre, we provide them medicines and help them with therapies. The whole process is extremely soulful and satiating to me.”
Favourite healthy habits
In keeping with her love for sharing her knowledge with people, we ask Deepa her three favourite habits that she loves to follow taken from the philosophy of Ayurveda. She says:
- Walking at least 1000 steps after meals
- Drinking warm water first thing in the morning; it helps cleanse the intestine
- Balancing the diet according to the Ritucharya
Considering how active and passionate Dr. Deepa is, it wouldn’t be a surprise to learn that the understanding of Ayurvedic principles was ingrained in her early on. She attributes her learnings to her father who, she says, has had the biggest influence on her life. “He is an ultimate follower of Ayurvedic rituals and it was from him that I inherited my interest towards Yoga and Ayurveda.”
“To boost immunity, I prefer to take a decoction of giloy, ashwagandha, fennel seeds and tulsi in the evening. This also helps lose those extra kilos. For skincare, I drink a glass of water every hour of a day, eat citrus fruits and avoid packaged juices as they are processed and have a lot of sugar.”
A soulful harmony
As a yoga practitioner herself, Dr. Deepa is a firm believer in incorporating Ayurvedic principles while following a Yogic lifestyle. She believes that amalgamating Ayurveda with Yoga helps us gain complete harmony and balance in the body and mind so that we can discover our true self and become one with our soul. They complement each other in a way that Ayurveda provides a diagnosis and Yoga helps with healing through its spiritual essence. “All Yoga teachers should learn the fundamental of Ayurveda and all Yoga students should seek Ayurvedic guidance to enhance their practice.”

Over the years, the concerns pertaining to immunity and mental health have gradually made the world recognize the importance of Yoga and Ayurveda. And Dr. Deepa is doing her part by enthusiastically encouraging young people to gravitate towards a natural way of living. Her message to the readers says:
“To all the health enthusiasts, people practicing Ayurveda and followers of Ayurveda – a healthy mind can be achieved through Yoga, a healthy body through Ayurveda. With both of them firmly incorporated in your life, you can achieve optimal health thereby a happier and longer life!”
From Amrutam’s list of holistic products, Dr. Deepa is a big fan of Nari Sondarya Malt and Gulkand. The malt has shown significant results in her dysmenorrhea and Amrutam Gulkand is a recipe that is relished by her loved ones, too!
We thank Dr. Deepa for her commendable efforts in making the world a better place and are beyond grateful to have her as part of our #AmrutamFamily!
