“I Got My Period Only Twice a Year” – Padma’s PCOD Journey of Healing and Hope

Despite educating women about menstrual health, Padma quietly struggled with PCOD and highly irregular periods herself. Read how small, consistent changes helped her reconnect with her cycle.

For someone who spent years educating women about menstrual and reproductive health, Padma never imagined she would struggle so deeply with her own cycle.

Originally from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and currently working in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Padma works closely with women through her NGO, spreading awareness about periods, reproductive health, and menstrual wellness.

But quietly, behind those conversations, she was navigating something deeply personal.

Because there was a time when getting her period even twice a year had become normal.

And for years, she did not know why.

It Started Early

Padma got her first period at the age of 14. Like many girls, she remembers painful cramps, hormonal changes, and irregular cycles. At the time, it did not feel unusual. Early periods are often unpredictable, and both Padma and her mother assumed things would settle with time.

But they didn’t. As the years passed, her periods continued to stay irregular. Alongside that came acne, mood swings, hormonal imbalances, and emotional ups and downs.

At that stage, neither she nor her family knew these could be signs of PCOD.

When Irregular Became Routine

Things did not improve in college. As Padma grew older, concerns around her health slowly increased. Her parents started worrying about her overall well-being and future fertility, which eventually led to visits to gynecologists.

She was prescribed hormonal medicines and birth control pills to regulate her menstrual cycle. But despite treatments, the struggle continued.

There were times when her period arrived only twice in an entire year. A gap of six to seven months between cycles had slowly become part of life.

“The stress of not knowing what was happening to my body kept increasing,” Padma shares.

For years, uncertainty became routine.

When New Symptoms Appeared

After 2020, Padma noticed another change. Before COVID, she weighed around 47 kilograms. Gradually, her weight increased to 60 kilograms. Along with that came persistent acne, bloating, body aches, back pain, mood swings, and constant discomfort.

Like many women trying to understand their bodies, Padma explored different paths to healing. Allopathy, homeopathy, home remedies suggested by her mother.

Anything that promised relief. But the results often felt temporary or inconsistent.

Discovering Ayurveda Through Amrutam

In 2025, Padma came across Amrutam. She began consistently following Amrutam’s guidance and included Nari Sondarya Malt as part of her routine.

What stood out in Padma’s journey is that the change felt gradual. There was no overnight transformation. Instead, things began shifting slowly.

The cycle that once came only every six months started improving. First, her period came after four months. Then three. Then two.

And recently, in June, something changed. Her period arrived naturally within just one and a half months. For someone who had spent years waiting endlessly for a cycle to come, this felt deeply meaningful.

“For me, Amrutam truly lived up to its name - it worked like nectar in my healing journey,” she says.

What Healing Taught Her

If there is one thing Padma learned through her journey, it is this: Consistency matters.

“Healing takes time. There are no overnight miracles,” she shares.

Today, as someone who continues working with women and educating them about menstrual health, Padma hopes her story reaches others who may be struggling with PCOD, irregular periods, hormonal imbalance, acne, weight gain, or emotional stress.

Her message is simple: Don’t lose hope. Be patient with yourself. And trust that healing can take time. Because sometimes, progress begins quietly, one cycle at a time.
